Your morning read, already waiting. The links worth reading, chosen by the people you trust on Bluesky and Mastodon — in your inbox before you open a single timeline.

Murmel doesn't ask you to scroll. It scans your Bluesky and Mastodon feeds, finds the links your network actually shared, and delivers them as a calm daily digest. Read once. Close the tab. Done.

"The timeline was designed to keep you. Murmel was designed to inform you." #Fediverse #Bluesky

The funniest thing we’ve recently heard about the new Murmel - it won’t pass Google’s “Toothbrush test,” because you only get to use it once a day. People read their morning daily digest, and forget about social media until the following day. 🙈

What do we do? Do we add more engagement hooks, so that people come back more often, or stay true to our core values?

📢 Last Friday, we launched a completely revamped version of Murmel - a v2.0 of sorts. It is a complete rewrite, and not just a an incremental update. We took this path, because we learned a lot of valuable lessons on the way, and the hardest one was that v1.0 would not scale teh way we wanted it.

Thus, v2.0. The bigest upgarde is that you now Mastodon AND Bluesky support, and up to 3 feed feeds to include in your digest.

Give it a try: https://murmel.social

A few of you have been asking to see how one of our email digests looks like. We thought, why don't we just show it to you right away, without the need to sign up. So, we took our Top Stories page, and turned it into a live digest preview.

What you see is what you will get once you sign up. Plus, it will be a 100x better, because it will be based on your own network.

@box464 @surefire Let us check. Most likely, you had a running trial in the past that already expired. Of course, we've built measures to protect people from misusing the trial feature, but we can also let you try that again, if you haven't had the chance in the past.

@kraftner All fair observations, and we have had many internal discussions to try and distance ourselves from the current AI hype train.

Here is the first small step: https://mastodon.social/@murmel_social/116096674321361554

One thing remains true, though. Our company was founded on the basis of academic research in ML and AI that dates back to the early 2000s. Therefore, it pains us, when everyone just slaps the abbreviation on their site and gets the instant "coolness" effect with zero scientific ground.

@dnkrupinski We are working on improving our image, and your feedback is very important to us: https://mastodon.social/@murmel_social/116096674321361554

We are not in the business of snooping on, or using people's data. We are just a bunch of nerds who don't know how to communicate their intentions well with the outside world. That's all.

Pricing is one of those. We put a price tag on Murmel, because we want to put something on our plates at the end of the month, without having to go into shady deals with VCs and such.

Along the way, we also removed a few of those leftover Twitter references that have been hanging around for years 🙈

We did something, which, in retrospect, we should have done a long time ago. We de-hyped our copy of vague AI references, and instead, focused on what we actually do.

✅ Do we check links to see if they are read-worthy? Yes, we do - and we mark them as such to you. The tech we use is the same used in spam filters and has existed for decades.

❌ Do we use LLMs to generate engaging on-demand slop and trick you into scrolling forever. No, never! That's not why we're in this business.
