New to pottery, old to metal. This account combines my two current artistic passions.
I've been playing music (mostly metal) for 30+ years and making pottery for about a year. Both are extremely cathartic and rewarding, and I'd love to share that world with you.
I plan to use this space to show off my pottery and music, but also to talk about and review the music I'm listening to while I throw pots. And maybe the occasional cat pic.
This Brown Bear clay can be a pain. It bloats, it warps, and most glazes just don't show up well. So, I wasn't confident these would turn out, but I love them.
The spouted mug was a happy accident, the result of a broken drumstick smacking the rim 🤷♂️
The completed (almost) mushroom stein. I still need to order the fittings for the lid, and will have more pics then, but I just had to share.
There were so many opportunities for this to go wrong, and I was a little terrified during every process, but success!
Love it when things go as planned! We're vending at a shroom fest this weekend, so I needed to make something shroomy. I wish I would have made 4 or 5 more!
Getting out of my comfort zone (mugs & bowls). Someone asked if I could make a beer stein, so had to attempt it. It'll be glazed to look like a shroom, obviously.
The corkless salt & pepper shakers were a class project. Double walled with an interior spout to fill them up.
I've formed a little routine lately. I throw pots on the weekend and then spend the rest of the week slowly finishing them between other projects.
This week, I threw a few 3x4"(ish) mugs to practice wheel trimming, a few mini mugs that were scraps from my failed attempts, and the cauldron for my wife.
Two versions of the same idea. The smaller tea pocket version was how I originally made them, but I wanted a version that could hold a lot more tea (and is easier to glaze). I've sold a few of the original, so will probably continue making both styles.

I mostly throw on the wheel these days, but I also enjoy hand building and all the futzing that's involved with that.
These two projects, a guitar pic box and necklace pendants, combine both metal and pottery!
The box was a commission from my bandmate in The Manifest Process, and the DRUNE pendants are freebies to send along in merch orders.
The box is covered in Mayco black engobe, not yet fired.
The pendants are covered in various Amaco celedons.
Toe beans! My wife (the real artist) had to show me how to do the cat paws. This was my first solo attempt.

An oldie but a goodie. I've been in DRUNE since 2018. This was during our 1st EP release in late 2019, right before the world went on hiatus for a couple of years.
One of the first mugs where I tried out a rolled circular handle as opposed to the flat, ear-like handles I previously stuck to. I love the way these look and feel, but you have to get the balance just right, or the weight will cause the mug to want to spin in your hand. This one worked out great!
