Well it's certainly been crazy the last two months. But in a good way 😊.

A new piece by @lavelleporter for JSTOR Daily on the essential poet Lucille Clifton, whose "work has always been timely and urgent, but since she left this earthly realm in 2010 her work has blossomed into something more."

The poet stares history down in an artful, Whitman-infused exploration of traumas her family endured and survived.

Fake Voices: The Ethics of Deepfakes
(MIT App Inventor)
"In this unit, students explore synthetic media by creating a smartphone app that can speak in different voices by changing the rate and pitch of the speech. Students work in groups to present arguments about the possible future impacts of various types of #deepfake media, including ones in commerce and assistive technology as well as those used in crime.

Educators can use this lesson to introduce students to #coding , provide a basic understanding of artificial intelligence and machine learning, and prompt students to predict the possible future use and abuse of synthetic media in society."

Fake Voices: The Ethics of Deepfakes

The joy of seeing my ACC students participate in their Cloud CTF final project is great. They are really working collaboratively and revisiting old tools and concepts learned throughout the semester.

Though, I think I underestimated their engagement and maybe should raise the minimum point value a bit next time. 😅

Awesome day for one of our #FTC #Robotics teams. They had their first scrimmage before qualifiers next month. So while things always didn't go as planned at times, the team learned a lot and had fun! They also won a match with their alliance!

On this day in 1903, Orville and Wilbur Wright made their first two flights in the #aircraft they had built. 118 years, 11 months and 11 days later, I proudly received my certificate from the FAA allowing me to take flight in my aircraft. It's easy to take the concept of flight for granted these days since it has become so ingrained in our way of life with our massive airliners and sprawling airports. Getting my #pilot certificate has been a great reminder of just how incredible a thing it is and I feel so very fortunate to be able to experience it in the way I do when I hop inside 55J.

I'm truly thankful for opportunity to do this and to my sister for coming on my first real flight. I also cannot wait to share this experience with my friends and my family. (Now if the weather would just cooperate)

Had a discussion the other day about ChatGPT with my cybersecurity class.

It was a really great discussion with a lot of participation from students about using ChatGPT and the pitfalls it can create in the #security world.

Half of my students gave their final project presentations in class today and I am just amazed at the breadth of things they have chosen to do with Python! 🥰 I learned a lot from their presentations and I hope they learned a lot from each other too.
