Om blot 11 dage, den 26. februar, udkommer min og Rikke Hyldgaards nye fuglebog, "jeg ser på fugle". Ikke en felthåndbog, men en bog om, hvordan det er at opleve fuglene i landskabet året rundt. #birds #fugle
#AuroraBorealis for everyone right now. And tawny owls, too. The Mols Laboratory #rewilding site is an awesome place. 😍 #nature
The Nørholm Wilderness near Varde in #Denmark, recently purchased by the Hempel Foundation, is a heathland that has not been grazed or burnt for over 100 years. A lot of senescent heather, but also quite a lot of structural variation. #nature #biodiversity #rewilding
Quite spectacular northern lights the previous night.... here from Nørre Snede, #Denmark #auroraBorealis
In the harsh winter weather many birds are having a hard time. The sparrowhawk not so much.... #birding #birds #nature https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasian_sparrowhawk
Happy new year! This morning I found this beautiful green woodpecker in my little sister's garden in #Vejle, #Denmark. Normally, the a really shy, but this one showed really well. #birds #birding #nature https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_green_woodpecker
For the second year in a row, my annual christmas birding trip in the local hood in C Jutland, #Denmark, with fellow birder Michael produced nice sightings of wolves, along with red kites, white-tailed eagles, cranes et al. What a miracle this is: 30 years ago nobody would have believed that these enigmatic species would once again roam N Europe. #wolf #canislupus #nature #biodiversity
Dressed primarily in black & white, the goosander can be difficult to photograph, but in the right conditions you can capture the delicate salmon-pink tinge of the males. An absolutely stunning bird! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Common_merganser #fugle #birds #birding #nature
Imagine... painted lady #butterflies (Vanessa cardui) emerging in NW Europe in august, migrating to W Africa, then being blown across the Atlantic to French Guyana in S America. Insect #migration is AWESOME! 😍 #insectmigration #nature https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-024-49079-2
A trans-oceanic flight of over 4,200 km by painted lady butterflies - Nature Communications

The extent and impact of global insect movements is hindered by tracking limitations. This study reveals a 4,200 km transatlantic journey by butterflies from West Africa to South America, lasting 5-8 days, highlighting the remarkable capacity of certain insects to disperse over vast distances.
