Regarding software development, I keep thinking about the Conditions of Possibility in a Kantian sense: What do we need to be (at least) able to learn something to be (at least) able to apply these skills to be (at least) able to achieve something we want. Because on all of these levels, the preconditions are destroyed and taken away from us.
