Machine translations are often brought up as a gotcha whenever I criticize LLMs. It's worth pointing out two things: Machine translations existed decades before LLMs, and yes, machine translations are useful. However: I would never in my life read a machine translated book. Understanding what a social media post is talking about in rough terms? Sure. Literature? Absolutely not. Hell, have you ever seen machine translated subtitles? It's absolute garbage.

It’s really weird to hear so many people who (intentionally or not) had no opinion about what Islamic republic regime did to Iranians, suddenly becoming expert Iranologists and peace “no war *with iran*” activists.

Your hate of the bad imperialist guy doesn’t automatically make everything he does bad for everyone (and you’re not obligated to oppose everything).

Ask Iranians around you if you will (if you have around you, which for most I doubt). I literally don’t know any Iranian against this
