Thinking about people-centered transportation* and the intersection with #housing, #justice, #climate...and more.

PNW = Pacific North West of continental U.S.
And, more specifically: the territory of the Lhaq’temish (Lummi) and Nuxwsa’7aq (Nooksack) people.

On May 1, 1865, in the 1st spring of freedom, Black Charlestonians held a procession to honor Union soldiers buried in a mass grave.
They came with roses. With hymns. With children.
It was the 1st Memorial Day.
But America gave the credit to others & buried the memory.

Representation matters.

New Bill Gives Transit Agencies Opportunity to Include People Who Rely on Transit to Improve Service - Disability Rights Washington

Today Governor Bob Ferguson signed into law HB 1418 which adds two voting members that are transit users to the governing body of public transportation benefit areas. This law amends Washington state law to allow PTBAs to appoint two voting members to their governing boards, one who is transit-reliant and one from an organization that serves transit-reliant communities.

I'm in danger of becoming The Glasgow City Council Defender. They've been doing some excellent urbanism. And now it turns out Glasgow city centre has had one of the best footfall recoveries after the pandemic in the UK.

I'm so sick people thinking if they don't like the system, they can just not be a part of it. There will always be a system, and you will always be affected by it. There is no system that runs in autopilot. Even in the best case scenario, where there is revolution (we don't need to talk about the 50 years of violent unrest that follows violent revolution, right?) there will still be a system, you'll still be a part of it, it will still be vulnerable.

The Cost of freedom is eternal vigilance, the cost of not participating is even higher.
