It's still winter up in the mountains on northern Vancouver Island. A 4 days of heavy snowfall lead to a spectacular blue sky sunny weekend for backcountry skiing. In the center of the photo, 4 people can be seen traversing onto a cliff, high up on a snow-covered mountainside. The photo was taken from Mount Cain, looking east toward Kunnum Peak.

It was windy yesterday in my neighbourhood.

Successful Mutual Aid Search – Nelson Island,
Members of Sunshine Coast SAR responded to a mutual aid request on Nelson Island, working with teams from Powell River SAR and Comox Valley SAR on a task for a person living with dementia who had spent the night outside.

A drone photo of the sea lions on the end of the Deep Bay spit. (photo by my neighbour)
The unusual sight has made the news and there has been thousands of people showing up to see the sea lions. It's a rural area, with a one lane, dead end road to the spit beach. Traffic and noise from the tourist/gawkers has been far worse than the sea lions. Then there are the people who do not pay attention to regulations about approaching wildlife. The sea lions were all sleeping peacefully until she approached within 4 meters.
I live on the east coast of Vancouver Island, British Columbia. It's herring spawning season and, as usual, thousands of sea lions are in the area feasting on the fish. For the first time, sea lions have decided to rest on the beach at the end of the spit where I live. It's interesting to see and as noisy as you might imagine. The 2 photos show the north and south sides of the spit.

It's Superb Owl day, with a snack.

An aurora came in quite strong this evening on Vancouver Island around 9pm with bright undulating green waves, then it faded to the horizon. I couldn't get my camera set up fast enough to capture the waves.

This Whimbrel has been staying around my neighbourhood for months. It's usually with a group of Black Oystercatchers.
