The tldr at the end is gold:

Top down overload: "covid is here, everyone buy TP"

Bottom up overload: "can't staff the registers come back later"

@maggiepint: This is weird to say out loud, but I actually am kinda an expert in rate limiting, so I'm gonna explain some stuff. About half of incidents in large-scale production systems involve having more requests...…

< Search by keyword does not work well, since your server can only search instances, it knows about (obviously).

Yeah that's part I'm currently struggling with. Let's say I want to search for stuff related to one piece. On reddit this is simply joining /r/onepiece as a starting point. I have yet to find a good way to start this here...

Thanks for the reply. Gotta give this some days and some earnest attention.
Reddit was, for a lot of stuff, a really nice user experience. Lots of subs where the primary point of contact for their respective communities. If we could get these communities away from spez and his cronies, I'd be delighted.

There's a Fediverse alternative to #Reddit called #Kbin. More info at https://kbin.pub

Still VERY new, not many servers yet, two so far in English:

https://fedia.io
https://kbin.social

No app yet, use it through these sites. Subreddits are called "Magazines". You can interact with magazines from other servers.

Coders help Kbin at https://codeberg.org/Kbin/kbin-core, non-coders donate at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/kbin

(Sorry to people bored of this, had many requests to put info in one place)

Still trying to figure this shit out. How do things like #kbin or #lemmy or #feddit interact with my brand new account here?

In my dream world, I would subscribe to such a "Magazin" and get it posted on my home feed. And to discover new stuff, I could simply search for a keyword and get a fitting magazine or community recommended.

@krutonium It's quite depressing. Maybe 5 or so subs I am subscribed to are not going dark, so my frontpage is flooded by them. Those are not my favorite subreddits, though. A shame.
Hello #Mastodon!

Yeah well, first post due to reddit going dark. Let's see if this works out.
