Several times a year, robotic spacecraft carrying a variety of items, including food, water, fuel, oxygen, medical supplies, replacement parts, and research materials, are launched from Earth to dock with the ISS. This astronaut photograph highlights the reentry plasma trail of one such spacecraft, the ISS Progress 42P supply vehicle. The Progress is based on the Soyuz design. #nasa

On the 3rd day of the Artemis 2 mission the crew encountered a space toilet issue when urine froze in the vent lines, preventing it from being dumped into space.

It was resolved using vent heaters and by rotating the spacecraft to expose the vent to sunlight. #nasa

In space, weightlessness causes fluids to distribute uniformly around human bodies. Kidneys detect the fluid movement and a physiological reaction causes the humans to need to relieve themselves within two hours of departure from Earth. The space toilet was thus the first device activated on shuttle flights, after astronauts unbuckled themselves. #nasa

This is one of a series of photographs of the eclipse of the Sun which was taken from the Apollo 12 spacecraft during its trans-Earth journey home from the Moon.

Eclipses have also been observed by the Apollo 11, 12, and 15 lunar missions observed solar eclipses. Astronaut Alan Bean on Apollo 12 described it as the most spectacular sight of the mission. #nasa

During the mission the spacecraft experienced a solar eclipse lasting 57 minutes, during which astronauts observed both the solar corona as well as "impact flashes" from meteoroids striking the dark portion of the Moon. They were also able to photograph the Moon illuminated by earthshine, along with the corona, stars, and planets including Saturn and Venus. #nasa

The Cupola, an ESA-built observatory module of the International Space Station (ISS). Its name derives from the Italian word cupola, which means "dome".

The Earth straddling the limb of the Moon, as seen from Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter above Compton crater.

The shadow in the foreground is from the crater's central peaks, while the mountains just above it can be seen in the 10 and 12 o'clock positions. The center of the Earth in this view is just off the coast of Liberia. The large tan area in the upper right is the Sahara desert, and just beyond is Saudia Arabia.

Taken on 12 October 2015.

This is the original image from which Earthrise was cropped. The photo is displayed here in its original orientation as seen by the crew of Apollo 8. Lunar north is up.

The original image was rotated 95 degrees clockwise to produce the published Earthrise orientation to better convey the sense of the Earth rising over the moonscape.
