I read somewhere that Fitbits are just modern day Tamagotchis and the stupid animal you’re trying to keep healthy is just you. I think about that a lot.

It's inappropriate to make a dad joke if you're not a dad.

It’s a faux pa.

My wife made rainbow pancakes for the rugrat today. Pretty impressive, if you ask me.

They Want You To Forget What A Film Looks Like - Aftermath

The 4K transfer of True Lies is what happens when a company uses proprietary tech to overwrite and denoise history.

Eric Idle being the best surviving Python

@Euan
Whenever life gets you down, Mrs. Brown,
And things are hard or tough,
And people are stupid, obnoxious, or daft,
And you feel that you've had quite enough...

Just listen to Eric Idle for proof that you're never too old to "get it."

@Euan These are such incredibly English answers to give to these, too. 😆

@Euan

Yeah, someone needs to sew John Cleese and Graham Linehan into a bag along with a heavy rock and throw that bag into a deep river

@Euan @TundraWolf My normal thought of an Eric Idle quote on this kind of subject is always the first Discworld point and click game... "That doesn't work" ;)

@Euan of course, it is apt that the standard Python coding environment is called IDLE 😉

https://docs.python.org/3/library/idle.html

IDLE

Source code: Lib/idlelib/ IDLE is Python’s Integrated Development and Learning Environment. IDLE has the following features: cross-platform: works mostly the same on Windows, Unix, and macOS, Pytho...

@Euan Michael Palin's still cool too, right?
@Thad I hope so! Always enjoyed the gag in Holy Flying Circus about him being The Nicest Man in the World.
@Thad @Euan And funnier, to be honest.
@Euan i mean Michael Palin, though
@Euan I always hoped Cleese was just doing a bit with the cancel culture stuff, like some self-deprecating "I'm not funny and it's the audience's fault" skit

because he acts like a horrible old man a lot for jokes at his own expense...

i remember the one where he's being chauvinistic in his "retirement" and the camera cuts to his young female nurse walking away as he's floating face-down in the pool with the wheelchair sunk to the bottom

@mel @Euan

He’s had some bad breaks which have cost him a lot of money. Divorce, Fierce Creatures failing even though it’s quite a good film, etc. To his credit, he hates Trump immensely and I’m sure the Tories as well. He’s still cool.

@RodneyPetersonTalent @mel @Euan

Divorces, plural. And apparently he was always optimistic enough to not get a nuptial agreement when he tried again.

@Euan Indeed ... he had not one, but *two* Python IDEs named after him!

@Euan I have it on good authority that Mr. Nudge-Nudge himself is a lovely human IRL.
@Euan @ianbetteridge That comment on seven years is *so* cold.

@Euan

John Cleese has quite a bit of social awareness and is still funny. It’s a shame that he lost a lot of money on Fierce Creatures, the followup to A Fish Called Wanda. It shouldn’t have happened, it’s a good and funny film.

Michael Palin made an amazing second career for himself with travel series, most very challenging (Pole to Pole, Around the World in 80 Days, Pacific Rim, Sahara, etc.)

Eric idle just seems to be idling by comparison, although happy. Good for him.

@RodneyPetersonTalent @Euan Eric Idle basically created Spamalot by himself, after not being able to get the others interested.

After it became a hit, he got the others to participate with what they could fit in (with some appreciative embarrassment, as they couldn't "see" how good the idea was at the time).

Eric Idle: Monty Python star working at 80 for financial reasons

Eric Idle told fans on social media that Monty Python was a financial "disaster".

BBC News

@Euan

Who knew that John Cleese would turn into Basil Fawlty?

@Euan @ianbetteridge I’m approaching old foggydom (not there yet) so I appreciate when someone like Eric Idle doesn't complain.
@Euan but dear gods those are brilliant

@Euan

Growing up does not mean one needs to grow old.

Cleese, he’s grown old. He’s the exact wanker he mocked 50y ago on BBC.

Idle? He’s grown up. He has the awareness and cogency to recognize that he should be the target of appropriate mockery.

And he laughs at himself.

I forget who wrote, “Life’s a laugh and death’s the joke, it’s true. You’ll see it’s all a show. Keep’em laughing as you go. Just remember that the last laugh is on you,” but Idle really gets it. ;)

@Aphrodite @Euan That's Eric's song.

@not2b @Euan

[Hi! Editor in my head here. Also a long time fan of Monty Python because British comedy is one of the reasons I survived my teenage years, and that’s no exaggeration. The smiley face at the end should’ve been sufficient to indicate that of course I know The Last Cool Python™ who sang this while being absolutely hammered on screen, wrote this song which has so much insight for such a playful, seemingly throwaway piece. -ed.]

@Aphrodite @Euan Sorry I missed the joke.

@Euan And the most musical one, too. :)

Cleese has self professed to be tone-deaf. Which is probably why in that sketch on flying circus where he's an archaeologist with someone piggybacking on him, he has someone else's song obviously dubbed over it.

@Euan *cough cough, ah hem* Michael Palin and Eric Idle
@Euan I didn't know that I needed to read those tonight, but I did.
Thanks for sharing.
@Euan
He was the cutest one, too. 🙂

@Euan The "cancel trope" ruined so much comedy tbh. It's so incredibly boring 😴

It's such a major contrast when you compare American comedy to other countries which didn't get trapped in this meme.

The worst part? Americans just can't get enough of this fake conflict. It's like you guys actively don't want to be happy or something.

@Euan Idle is great. Cleese is a gross racist and it's really a shame.
@Euan
What they say: cancel culture
What they mean: free market consumer choice
@Euan those who are talking most about cancel culture don't realise it is ok to exist and always had. You know the right to marry your loved once, even if they have the same genitalia? If you are strongly against those, you are cancelling them. Oh you don't want to go on a Taylor Swift(or any other) concert? Are you CaNcElLiNg her???
The only thing which is not cancel culture and is not ok is threats to or lies about people!
E.g: talk like a Nazi and you will be called out to be a Nazi no cancel
@Euan oh thank goodness!
@Euan Jesus this ageist crap can fuck off.
@Euan it makes me happy, too, Eric
