@BlackAzizAnansi @ianrogers I haven’t seen any discussion about where this is implemented. If it’s in the bsky client app, then any of the alt clients should work fine. I do t think the relay sees the client address, so I doubt it’s implemented there. I guess they could also block at the PDS, but the decentralized answer is to host your own PDS.

I wonder if the blacksky folks have discussed their approach.

@SecurityWriter oh man, I need that mug. I spent a month of my life last summer teaching the networking department how to properly perform a long running capture to get a PCAP for a relatively rare event. Teaching the network team to do this is *not* in my JD or expected responsibilities, but apparently I was the only one with the necessary experience since I cut my teeth in telecom doing VoIP stuff.

Ended up proving a bug in a network device that the vendor acknowledged and fixed! But what an aggravating process.

@GossiTheDog reminds me of the northeast NA outage in 2003. Won't be the same specific root cause, but probably similar in how a local fault cascaded.
@mcc recent exposure to Perl, eh?
@mcc depending on the size of band you need, you could buy some broccoli heads or something held together with a rubber band.
@franco I plead guilty, your honour.
@vincent regarding the rate limiting, is it basic IP rate limiting or something a bit more intelligent? Do you have access to a network with IPv6?
@mcc @GossiTheDog I don’t think there’s any doubt. Every headline is going to include one of “Microsoft” or “windows” because that is the platform impacted, even if they aren’t the cause. Even if the headline also includes the cause, most people have no clue who or what a CrowdStrike is.

@nev @phillmv as a cis dude I've encountered the silhouette thing with suits. A heavy phone is going to disrupt the clean lines of any decent suit.

But that's kinda the exception that proves the rule: women have to deal with that crap every day, men only have to care when their putting on a suit.
