Open letter from artists to Sónar festival on KKR

THIS LETTER CAN BE SIGNED ONLY BY THE ARTISTS WHO ARE PLAYING OR PLAYED AT SONAR FESTIVAL As current and previous Sónar participants, we believe it is our responsibility to act according to our ethical values and to raise our voices against injustice. International complicity enables Israel’s genocide against Palestinians in Gaza and therefore we oppose the involvement of complicit corporations in our festivals and venues. Sónar is one of 80 events owned by Superstruct Entertainment, which in turn is now majority owned by private equity giant KKR that is deeply complicit in Israel’s genocide in Gaza. Many artists have already boycotted Sónar for these reasons. We respect and support all strategic and ethical decisions that our fellow artists are making in response to KKR’s complicity. We support the demands that the largest Palestinian coalition leading the global Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement has made of all Superstruct-owned events. Sónar is also sponsored by Coca-Cola and McFlurry (a McDonald’s product). Both companies are BDS targets because of their clear involvement in Israel’s genocide against Palestinians. As the BDS movement has noted, Sónar’s recent statement “is clearly insufficient to undo the harm caused by its involuntary complicity through its ownership structure.” Sónar festival is a platform that prides itself on creativity, innovation, and cultural exchange.
