the best time to kill an oil exec was twenty years ago. the second best time is now.

My most extreme tech policy position is that all software must be open source, or at the very least source-available. Consumers have the right to know what the software they are often forced to use to participate in society is doing, how it works, and who it talks to - ingredient and nutrition labels for software, basically.

After endless suffering and deaths at the hand of malafide capitalists, we legally mandated ingredient and nutrition labels on food, medication, drinks, and much more. Why should software be any different?

I received a response from [email protected] & it's bad. To ignore intolerance is not how you demonstrate tolerance. Allowing hatefulness into your space is not how you promote an intellectually open environment.

Daniel's donation to a political party may not represent your values, but when that party is one advocating for things like "remigration", your silence on the issue absolutely does show where your values are.

Downplaying my decision as "philosophy" is just plain rude. I live in the USA, where fascism is running rampant. I know very well what fascists do to innocent people. I do not want to support a company that is pouring money into fueling fascism in another country. I don't want more people to have to be afraid to go outside.

I can't get a refund because it has been more than the fourteen days allowed by the refund policy, but anyone within that time should absolutely fill out a refund request now.

How are you feeling?

tired & uninspired
frazzled & rumpled

Revealed: Reform’s £24 Million from Fossil Fuel Interests

Reform UK has received £24 million from oil and gas interests, accounting for more than two thirds of its total income, DeSmog can reveal. Led by Nigel Farage, the party is calling for new North Sea oil and gas drilling ahead of UK-wide elections in May on the ill-founded claim that it will cut energy bills. […]

daniel berntsson, one of mullvad's two founders and owners, has donated millions to a local fascist/populist party. (swedish link to flamman, a socialist news site)

the örebro party are mainly known for using unusually aggressive rhetorics and racism.

in the article, berntsson specifically mentions supporting the örebro party's politics of forced repatriation of swedish citizens born abroad.

EDIT: …and should you decide that you're not renewing your subscription, then may i suggest telling them about it? i mean it's arguably a good thing if they're made aware that they're losing customers because of the owners financing this crap. and they can't get away with it since anonymous donations to political parties are prohibited in sweden.

you could even tell them here on fedi. it's mullvadnet(at)mastodon.online

"Trump is facing some real danger regarding the suit he filed against the BBC:

–He filed suit over a story they did on the January 6 insurrection, which included parts of the speech he gave on January 6th. Trump claimed that they had spliced two parts of his speech together to make it sound like he had incited the riot. The BBC apologized, but he sued them anyway, for $10 billion dollars.

–Unlike most of the media organizations he sued, the BBC didn’t settle. (It’s not clear whether Trump even realizes it’s not an American media company or that it’s owned by the British government.) They proceeded to the discovery phase and have been demanding all sorts of documents from Trump.

–The BBC is citing Jack Smith’s report suggesting Trump’s speech met the incitement standards and that violence was foreseeable. Many of the documents they are requesting are the same ones Jack Smith requested as Special Prosecutor, documents which led Smith to conclude that Trump met the standards for incitement.

–Trump, meanwhile is refusing to hand over documents, claiming “a fishing expedition,” has offered no proof that he was harmed by the BBC program (which was never shown in the United States, and is seeking to shift the case to a different judge.

–There are reports that some of the documents implicate Trump more deeply in the insurrection than had been known before, and Trump’s lawyers are worried that discovery in Trump’s lawsuit could expose him to a January 6 “trial,” a trial he has managed to avoid until now.

–DefaultyTurtle2: “The Brits being the force behind deposing a tyrant would be very ironic on the US’s 250th birthday year.”"
