I am begging writers & writing-related-workers of all kinds—but especially people working in journalism and blogs—to stop using “AI art” to accompany your writing.

Please have solidarity with your fellow creative workers 💜

Some thoughts on Sam Altman's recent post

W3C has opened a new session of its CSS Basics course on W3Cx, where you can learn how to take your web pages "from bland to bold" with the power of CSS styling. This course is part of W3C's "Front-End Web Developer" Professional Certificate.

You can audit this course for free for 5 weeks after enrolling, or opt for the premium version with unlimited access, graded assessments, and a W3Cx certificate.

Had my first visit to a nuclear waste plant yesterday and saw actual nuclear waste processing in action (behind a 6ft thick window), so that’s something to tick off the bucket list ☢️✅
Do the right thing.
Heading home after another awesome #CSSDay. Great to see lots of familiar faces and meet some new web friends. So much creativity and joy 💖
popover + @starting-style are pretty dreamy, huh? #css

Yes, yes, yes, yes, @jasonsantamaria! 👏

“For now, I’m planning on continuing to roll up my sleeves. I want to make things because I’m human and alive. I want to go on journeys and grow. I’m not always looking for an easy path, I want the friction. Because if I give up the journey, what am I really making? What do I actually learn?”

📢 A bunch of unresolved thoughts and feelings on AI, the web, and making things. Writing this mostly for future me: https://jasonsantamaria.com/blog/large-language-muddle

This from @Robb resonates: https://robbowen.digital/wrote-about/looking-elsewhere/

I’ve been feeling the cultural burnout hard, and struggling with the idea of staying in an industry that is increasingly making me sick to my stomach. I’m hoping to glean some sparks of inspiration from the wonderful people at CSS Day that might help me feel that joy and motivation again for a craft that has been slipping away from me.

Looking elsewhere - Robb Owen

Against the backdrop of mass layoffs, LLMs, site-builders and vibe coding what does it mean to conscientiously build for the web, and where do we go from here?
