Seen on the DC metro. Have to assume this is top notch guerrilla artwork. It can’t be official, right? A+ either way! #trashfreedc #washingtondc
Got a new wifi access point & it came with this delightful GPL notice! They’ll send you code on CD-ROM! In 2024! What a throwback! …I may just have to do it!

I went to see a "Passive House" apartment building that is under construction here in DC and I took some notes. OK, a lot of notes. But these buildings do some neat things! And are probably how we should be building everything.

I fondly remember the magazine shop near DuPont Circle where I'd regularly pick up my copy of @2600 . Inevitably that closed, but there were still a few bookstores that had magazine racks. At some point that ended. Maybe it was the pandemic's wild impact on everything, maybe it happened before all that. Either way, while rebuilding my post-twitter online media consumption however I finally noticed that there was a zine shaped hole in my life. Glad to have a copy in my hands again.
Checked in on the pawpaw crop this season. Approaching ripeness. Ok volume, better than last year anyhow. Likely ready for harvest in the next couple weeks! #pawpaw #foraging

The wildfire smoke has cleared out of DC, but I keep coming back to this article about how we used to have "Code Red" air quality days every summer.

The reason they stopped - the local coal power plant closed!

Twenty years ago, it was common to have dozens of “Code Red” bad air days per summer

In the recent past, the DC area typically saw 20 or more Code Red days every summer. What changed?

Yesterday I thought the smoke was bad here in DC, so I took a picture to send to family. It looks downright normal compared to a photo from the same spot today. #WashingtonDC #AirQuality #WildfireSmoke

Just over a year ago I put solar panels on my house. Which means now is the right time to see how they did ...particularly as compared to what I was promised!

https://miccolis.github.io/posts/2023-01-09-how-accurate-was-the-solar-pitch.html

tl;dr - solar panels work, my home is now a net producer of electricity.

How Accurate Was The Solar Pitch

DC has this odd “Solar Renewable Energy Credit” marketplace which basically forces non-renewable energy produces to pay folks to generate solar. It’s pretty great, but also complicated. My experience so far; https://miccolis.github.io/posts/2022-10-31-getting-credit-for-rooftop-solar.html
