#WritersCoffeeClub 5/5: "Have you ever taken inspiration from something which could have but didn't happen?"

Given that my stories (minus a few dragons, griffins, and ghosts, and some magic) can essentially be described as "What if early medieval Europe had already had gender equality, and tea?", I certainly have, in a very general sense of particular ideas (and trade routes) taking root earlier than they did historically ...

I won an award for my PhD thesis! It's called Högskoleföreningens pris and is awarded to one thesis in the natural sciences each year at Stockholm University. Weird Swedish name, I know, but for me, as someone who speaks this weird language, it's a great honour!

How is your 2026 shaping up?
I feel like I was run over by a truck...
I had to postpone the release of my sixth book in the Mowbray Chronicles, because the characters just weren't playing ball (or anything else, really). Just managed to get it uploaded before I went to ApollyCon in Washington. I was spotting a romatasy-author friend of mine and it was a BLAST
Honestly, if you love romantasy, ApollyCon is the place to be, which is easy to say because I haven't gone to any other romantasy-cons 😉

Workaway mojo took a very unexpected turn. Just as I was cranking out words my husband called to tell me that our beloved little kitty hasn't been home for two days straight 😱
He never strays. He's a cuddle bug. Granted, he loves me and tolerates my husband, but still, when I'm not around, he does accept his second-fav human to be the go to guy.
Now, I can't concentrate.
Please amp up the karma-omometer and cheer for a happy return of my little Eddie 😸

Workaway-time is finally here!
I'm intent on writing a draft for my next historical fiction book in a week
I know, I know it sounds bonkers (and trust me, I am), but unlike many other authors whom I greatly admire, I am simply not the sit down and write every day kind of author.
Instead I write in massive, focused bursts. Usually I can crank out about 10k a day - stick around for the next 6 days to see if I hit my target
I'll share historical fun facts too

Researching Henry V and accidentally stumbled on a bit of weirdness from his father's coronation.

Apparently, Henry IV's hair was crawling with lice when the archbishop went to anoint his head.

It is the only recorded instance of royal lice which leads me to think it must have been some colony he was hauling around!

I don't know what I've been waiting for (divine inspiration perhaps?) but I'm just going to dive head first into this - to me - new platform and introduce myself:

Hi!

I'm Mette, and yes, that's a hard name for anyone to say outside my own country of Denmark, so don't worry, I respond to a wide variety of noises that approximate it

I write medieval historical fiction and grimdark fantasy and I'm so excited to be here 👋 hoping to inspire and be inspired in turn
