Hi Mastodon, please enjoy this epic scowl from a coffeeshop cat that was actually extremely nice.
In a bizarre start of 2023, I’ve gotten approval from the university president to do fairly routine work for a project because no one is sure if it violates a new state directive. I really didn’t want to have to tell a grad student we needed to shut down the project so this is very welcomed news.
@Prof_Mirya @dogsofmastodon what a cute little happy seal :)
@NathanKalmoe congratulations! What an exciting opportunity!

Serotonin is such an enigma.

In a fresh paper by the lab of Mark Andermann it is shown that serotonin gates the information flow from retina to thalamus.

Trying to understand the bigger picture, we have recently proposed that serotonin has a central role in digesting information. Our paper w @macshine @DrYohanJohn @claireocallaghan and others can be found here: https://shine-lab.org/wp-content/uploads/2022/08/2022_brain.pdf

@egojunk thank you!
@chanret thank you!
@dadakim thank you!
@owenozier yes, that was the paper I had in mind. Apologies for not sharing it with my original comment!

I’m seeing that “Too good to be true” mturk paper uncritically shared on mastodon. That paper was not peer reviewed and the editor who approved it was asked to resign for similar editorial practices (accepting un-reviewed, one-sided commentaries)

Here is another paper pointing out all the deficiencies of that paper that would have been caught in peer review: https://psyarxiv.com/w7qy9
