A billionaire enters a gas station. Seeing the "Leave a penny, take a penny" dish on the counter, he scoops up all of the coins and pockets them.

"I'm a genius," he says to the protesting clerk. "I earned this money. Anybody could have taken it, but only I had the vision to see what was possible."

There was an article about moving to Codeberg on the orange website yesterday, and out of interest to get an impression of what average programmers think of the idea of moving, I took at look at the comments. (Yeah, I know …)

I’m going to write here my thoughts on a general impression of the comment thread as a whole. (Rather than respond to individuals.)

Do not admit to committing crimes on the internet. For instance, never talk about going to the bathroom.

Do not admit to committing crimes on the internet.

And also, do not ask people if they will commit crimes in the future on the internet.

Besties, my insurance is being a fuck about paying for bracing and mobility aids so I can walk good consistently.

That said, I don’t especially want to beg for money, because there’s a non zero chance they actually do come through for me eventually, but I do want to offer 3-to-5-card tarot pulls over video chat for $20. I’ll spend probably 30 minutes to an hour with you talking through your reading 💖

Slide into my DM’s if you’re interested!

"Joy is resistance" (and I'm paraphrasing) was used by Emma Goldman to mean that we should live happily in spite of oppression, not as an excuse to do things that enrich and empower oppressors. The whole point was to dance at the revolution, not pay the oppressors to take dance classes.

"Consumer boycotts won't bring down a capitalist system."

Yes, and? I'm as anti-capitalist as anyone, but I also believe in not funding evil as much as possible whilst the system exists. "But it won't bring down capitalism" isn't an excuse for supporting genocide.

All I see when someone says this is "I want to give my money to big corporations and bigots who are hurting people without being judged for it." Cool. Do you. But refusing to give money to exploitative corporations as much as possible is way more anti-capitalist than the alternative.

"What radicalized you?"

How about the fact we have life saving/ changing medications and treatments and we gate keep them with money.

People die because they are too poor to access life saving treatment.

Companies have invested almost 180 Billion dollars into fucking AI slop when that money could end world hunger and homelessness nearly 10 times over.
