Hello, again, Mastodonians. I've taken a bit of a breather from a lot of social media. I'm wading back in, but only wading.
In London right now, listening to a DJ on the radio (105.2 FM) drop a reggaefied version of Louis Armstring’s “What a Wonderful World” and an a capella of Michael Bolton’s "How Am I Supposed to Live Without You" and now I don’t know what’s real anymore.

The 2nd episode is about right wingers on shortwave, which picked up in the 90s. James Latham of the former Radio for Peace International is featured for his program “Right Wing Radio Watch.” I used to listen on the air and online, and was sad when the station closed.
Enjoyed the first two episodes of @onthemedia new season of The Divided Dial covering #shortwave radio. Was great to hear @pirateradiomap help intro the first episode.

Today Melissa Lewis over on BlueSky pointed out that the font used in the infamous "You wouldn't steal a car" anti-piracy campaign was actually designed by Just van Rossum, whose brother, Guido, created the Python programming language (bsky.app/profile/melissa.news/post/3ln7hx5rhcj2v)

She also pointed out that the font had been cloned and released illegally for free under the name "XBAND Rough". Naturally, it would be hilarious if the anti-piracy campaign actually turned out to have used this pirated font, so I went sleuthing and quickly found a PDF from the campaign site with the font embedded (

So I chucked it into FontForge and yep, turns out the campaign used a pirated font the entire time!

Sleek remotes, like the one that comes with a Roku or Apple TV? Totally work against the concept. And before the slick remotes, there were complex remotes with a million buttons. I wrote about them in 2017: https://tedium.co/2017/05/25/universal-remote-control-history/
Universal Remote Control History: Not Great, Just Good Enough

The universal remote control, love it or hate it, made our lives just a little bit simpler starting in the ‘80s. It's not as good as it could be. That's OK.
