Husband, father, geek and professional computer toucher. Owned by cats. I’m a proud adopted Brummie, even though I’m still working on the accent. Oh, and new here, so please excuse any cultural ham-fistedness. Puns are intended. Pronouns: they/them/theirs.

I just saw somebody refer to a human person, like an actual meat-and-bone possessed-of-inalienable-rights-and-inherent-dignity human person, as "agentic".

Bernard Avishai once famously said that the danger of computers is not that they will eventually get as smart as people, but that we will meanwhile agree to meet them halfway, and I think about that every day. Not just in terms of smarts, but dignity, kindness and decency.

if the dude-gendered term for a unix elder is "graybeard", what's the lady-gendered term? "cronetab?"
@stephenserjeant hahahaha oh dear, stop it, my farting strings cannot cope!
Today’s finally the day that Daniel Hannan, famously such a predictive monster mind, said we should all look forward to.
I am fully blind. Sometimes when I meet a new person for the first time and they ask why, I'll tell them that I lost my sight from masturbating too much as a teenager. My sighted friends tell me the looks on their faces are priceless.

I can't get over this sentence no matter how often I read it.

"Women showed no effects when told they were masculine; however, men given feedback suggesting they were feminine expressed more support for war, homophobic attitudes, and interest in purchasing an SUV."

Nice horrors you got there. Be a real shame if they….persisted

@TheBreadmonkey this reminds me of a teacher who once accused me of copying an essay from somewhere else because I was apparently using words "beyond my reading level", except this is even worse. Fuck's sake.

And I used the word 'excoriating' in a post this morning, so.

America is the world's police, in the American sense of policing: there's some smaller country dead on the ground and the US is going "he was reaching for a nuke!" and no matter how implausible this is, whatever nominal international laws and processes that are supposed to punish them will somehow let them off scott-free
Shout out to everyone who is still trying to be an open hearted and kind person while having to process lots of heavy things.
