For fuck's sake guys, if someone says they may have to flee their country due to fascism you do not start critiquing their decision or telling them it's futile to do so.

It's especially nasty to do this if you don't know why they're fleeing or what their situation is.

It's even worse when the person doing the critiquing claims to be leftist, they're doing the work of fascists by trying to crush people's spirit.

@SeanCasten As someone who recently lost a family member due to dementia, this is exactly what happened. He took the cognitive screening test, likely failed it, and is trying to cover up for his dementia.

Stay alert, folks. He's only going downhill from here, and with that comes angrier outbursts, random dangerous actions that will put himself if not the whole country in further peril, vomiting blood, and cardiac arrest.

Yeah, reminds me of another moment we had: Pete Buttigieg, then Secretary of Transportation, tried to bring up how racism is present in our very infrastructure. Know Nothings tried to dismiss this as nonsense because they deliberately avoid knowing who built this country, who continues to build it, and why our interstate highways plowed through Black neighborhoods instead of white ones. They made asses of themselves and got laughed at and learned nothing, same as ever.

It's just arrogance and bigotry. People who got a hand up and got ahead can either recognize that, be grateful, and pay it forward. Or they can be MAGA/Maple MAGA and imagine it's because of their genetic superiority, and rail against any policy that would help them because it might also benefit nonwhite people and young people.

Obama tried to tell the US that we live in a society, that other people build our bridges, and was roundly mocked by those people.
