Live in Gloucestershire, UK. Keen supporter of #opensource starting with self taught #linux using #Mandrake distro in about 2000. Now use a vps for own interests in #familyhistory (#webtrees) and photography (#piwigo, also trialling #immich. Using #digikam and #darktable as well). My home machine runs #Fedora
@svhaag #jitsi is certainly worth a go.

@Guy There is no "one size fits all" here. I have been scanning 5000+ slides for some 15 years on my reliable #Epson V700 with still more to do. The number has increased over time by adding slides from my late father and my wife's late father and grandfather. Start by considering:

Who wants to see them and why?
How many have you got? Do you need to scan every single one?
How much time are you wiling to spend?
What resolution do you desire?
Do you want to scan old prints as well?

Good luck!

NO ONE needs AI slop and more AI data centres

EVERYBODY needs clean water, affordable energy, and a habitable planet

@brettezeleliquide Beautiful sound and video. Just how you imagine it would be. Thanks.
@Arkenston There is no specific attribution for the photo and one might assume it was taken by the account holder. This now seems unlikely and the whole post seems AI. The account has an empty profile. Waste of the planet's resources. I do not want to see photographs created by AI unless this is clearly indicated so this is an account I will block.

Yes I have run #webtrees on my own (VPS really) server for about 12 years. Generally a very positive experience and does pretty much everything I want it to do. I am not a heavy user - just over 1000 individuals - and I dip in whenever I do some family tree work. Not sure what information you require but feel free to have a look at history.snells.uk

I blogged about the fediverse. A short (hopefully non-technical) overview to send to my non-fedi friends and colleagues:

#Hereford #Cathedral viewed from across the #River #Wye. A view most likely photographed thousands of times but the #autumn colours bring out something special as the river slowly winds its way on a dull day.
