I never imagined that the Turing test would fall within my lifetime. Nor did I imagine that I would feel so disheartened by it.

The Future of Everything is Lies, I Guess

At this point when someone links their X or Substack account what I'm reading is "I am politically apathetic, if not worse".
@rygorous Well you can also provide this as a URL, which will cause people to see (something like) your chosen output on a domain they trust. I can imagine it being a possible vector for shenanigans in some situations.
ProseMirror's Migration to Forgejo

Hello ProseMirror community. I am in the process of moving as much of my code as is practical off GitHub and onto my own Forgejo instance at code.haverbeke.berlin. I’m looking into migrating ProseMirror soon, so this message is a heads-up about that and a call for feedback. The plan is to create a prosemirror organization on that server and migrate the repositories over so that they keep the same structure, and then archive the GitHub repositories. That means link to issues or patches under git...

@torgo Don't ascribe it agency. It's not on any side, it's spitting out what it's asked to spit out. And the fascists are, unsurprisingly, the group most enthusiastic about the idea of automated lie machines.
@mb21 Yes, it's fine. Being plain text, it doesn't have the issues that CRDTs have with rich text. If all you need is syncing a text doc over a server, it still doesn't buy you much, but it can be easier to integrate syncing of data outside of the doc if you have a CRDT. Merging offline edits still won't magically do the right thing.
ProseMirror's code no longer lives on GitHub. Next up (soon): CodeMirror.

#OtD 1 Apr 1982 oil company Exxon made a private report on CO2. It showed burning fossil fuels would cause global warming which may be irreversible and could be detectable by 1995. They then spent $31m to spread false propaganda claiming the opposite https://stories.workingclasshistory.com/article/8039/exxon-greenhouse-effect-report
Working Class History

“Researchers measured autistic people against neurotypical expectations and called every difference a deficit. They tested empathy by measuring in-group preference and missed commitment to universal fairness. They measured creativity by counting the number of ideas and missed originality. They saw moral consistency and called it rigidity. They saw deep engagement and called it rigidity. They saw sensory richness and called it disorder.”

What the World Got Wrong About Autistic People

For decades, autism research compared autistic people to animals, denied them moral sensitivity, and assumed autistic traits made them miserable. All wrong.
