Giving a boost to @maliamaunakea's Lei and the Fire Goddess, which launches June 6!

Because of her fiery tongue, Lei is cursed by the fire goddess Pele, and must fight through the tangle of Hawaiian legends made real in order to save her kidnapped best friend Kaipo. Epic adventure featuring vengeful goddesses, lava sled races, and a sarcastic bat.

PRH will donate books to kids in Hawaii based on the # of pre-orders. Order here: https://shop.twjbookshop.com/products/lei-and-the-fire-goddess to get a signed copy!

Lei and the Fire Goddess by Malia Maunakea (Signed Copy, Preorder: Releases June 6, 2023)

@AmberJFrost I totally wrote this in an attempt to get my kids to learn more about their heritage (but now they're probably too old to actually read it 😝 maybe when they have kids!)
I realized my #introduction from the other server didn't make it over to here, so I'll go again. Hi! I'm a #writer and a #kanaka. I write #middlegrade (my #debut #book Lei and the Fire Goddess comes out with #penguin 6/6/23) and #ya for now, and also have an #adult #nf coming out next April about #backpackingwithkids. Most of my books have #hawaiian themes in them. I'm awkward, tend to be blunt, and have a ton of ideas (that I struggle to execute/complete) (woo #adhd!). So happy to meet you all!

My favorite time of the day is when the morning sunlight streams though on my ti leaf plants. The ti leaf was super important to Hawaiians. They were made into capes to protect from rain, dried and made into sandals, and had many medicinal benefits. As a kid I learned how to make ti leaf skirts for hula performances and ti leaf lei to give. More recently I learned how to tie them as a natural wrapping paper for gifts.

Do you have a favorite house plant that brightens your day?

@ChristineBirchwood It has come in so handy for me when introducing other authors that I'm unsure of. Plus some authors just put really funny stories on theirs!
I got my name pronunciation on the Teaching Books app! If you were ever wondering how to say my name or what it means, take a listen: https://www.teachingbooks.net/pronounce.cgi?pid=3401 (the transcript should be up in a few days I think...)
