New kitchen knife made out of an old toothless swiss file #forged out with a salvaged Ekki wood handle

The carbon steel blade has since gone quite dark with apple slicing its amazing how acidic food really darkens up steel #knifemaking #blacksmithing #upcycling

Stuck at home with the dreaded COVID.
In between bouts of feeling like a hot (feverish) mess, I’ve been whittling spoons from bits of black cherry pallet I snagged from work.
Honestly, work has been an amazing source for wood
the pallets where used to transport million-dollar equipment are made of hardwood, specially built, and only ever used once its such a shame that they where destined for the landfill.
A lot of the north American hardwood they are made of is quite exotic for Ireland.
I forgot how cool tiger lillys looked they are almost other worldly #bloomscrolling
Some shy pumpkins and gourds
Coloring the titanium feather
I wanted to put this with my original post but I couldn’t put images with videos

Titanium feather key fob

The trick with working titanium is to clean it thoroughly with pickling solution between each step. This is especially important if you need to forge it out
doing so helps prevent those unwanted thick nasty oxide patches and metallic contamination from interfering with the oxide colours you’re aiming for in the flaming process.

Hooked blackbird & rowan rug
I’ve been working on this piece on and off for 3 years now. When it’s finally finished, it’ll probably hang over a drafty wall I couldn’t bear to risk coffee stains and mud I'd probably cry

The wool comes from the old Youghal carpet factory, that closed down in the 2000s believe
Also me spinning some local alpaca with my cat wingnut in the background ♥️
