On the internet, nobody knows you're a horse-shaped cloud of interstellar gas.

I count neutrons for a living, and photons for fun. Novice homelabber.

It's somewhat embarrassing how much photographing the sky drives projects which may seem completely unrelated (e.g. a retaining wall??).

You matter, and if I've said something that makes you feel like you don't, let me know.

Nazis and quislings need not apply.

Completed the first stage of making an uber-nerdy hacker cyberdeck computer. I had bought the RISC-V version of the uConsole a few years ago, which was neat, but not especially powerful or useful.

I upgraded it with an RPi CM5 module and an RTL-SDR add-on from https://hackergadgets.com/. I decided the CM5 module needed a fan and heatsink, which required cutting a hole in the backplate.

Finally got it all put together. Next step is to figure out how to get the damn thing to boot an OS lol

This is a hard one for me to catch, but I got lucky last month and was able to capture more data that I combined with some data from May 2025.

Rho Ophiuchi is one of my favorite nebulae. It’s so colorful in broadband; no filters necessary. I wish it wasn’t so close to the horizon for me.

Story Set Up:

One day you get a strange envelope in the mail. No obvious significance of the return address, it's just a shipping depot. In the large bubble envelope you find... your childhood journal. An old tattered notebook full of drawings and writings you remember well. Who could have sent it? A relative?

But there is another much more serious issue. One you are reluctant to even confront.

You never lost your old childhood journal. It's right there on the shelf.

There are *two* copies.

The May issue of Clarkesworld is now online and features stories by Louis Inglis Hall, Tia Tashiro, Nick Wolven, Sheri Singerling, Grace Chan, Raahem Alvi, and Zhao Haihong.

I went out with my #astronomy club on Saturday night and ended up staying up literally all night doing #astrophotography. I'm still working on processing everything that I captured because I kind of went hog wild and set up 4 telescopes (if you count my Seestar S30).

I stayed up all night because I wanted to try to capture a pic of comet C/2025 R3 (PANSTARRS). I was only able to capture for like 20 minutes before the sunrise blew out all the images, but I did manage to get luminance and RGB.

"We'll just 'AI' spam books, movies, and music" always conveniently ignores how much of everything there already is and how little of it gets any traction.

I was too long to setup so I captured just a dozen frames before sunrise, but here is the PanSTARRS comet this morning
