I like walking around cities and looking at the buildings. My favourites are classical and vernacular architectures, and I also enjoy little ornaments and details on humble constructions testifying to the love and care someone put in them.
After joining Mastodon in an effort to leave big tech, I realized this could be an opportunity to look through my photos, share them, and even research some of the depicted buildings.

Playground-area in the IC #train traveling between #Zurich and #Chur #Switzerland. It's great that #SBB offers this on some #trains: long trips are more fun for children and the rest of the train is more quiet for adults.
Sometimes these areas are so full of kids climbing, running and jumping that it is almost magical to see how rarely they accidentally hurt each other.
There are two layouts: this is the jungle-themed one, other trains have a castle/dragon slide with a house instead of the boat.
Interesting #design choices in #Zurich: this bench allows you to choose if you want to look at the street or at a concrete beam. The concrete edges make sure you don't waste too much time sitting around. I do not like it.
A beautiful building #facade in the old town of #Luzern, Switzerland. A painting shows a view of the city and includes the building itself. #architecture #WindowFriday #FensterFreitag
One of many beautiful areas within the Vatican. I was there for several hours but still feel like there was so much more to see.

A #contemporary residential building in #Zurich by nusus.ch, 2025. Turned out quite well in my opinion: the volume is compact but not boring, and while the decorations are very simple, they are also effective in subdividing the facade, making it more interesting to look at. #architecture
The historic house "of the cock" in #Baden, Switzerland. The plaque reads "Zum Güggel. Built before 1647. House first mentioned in 1786. In 1778 2 people, 1 goat, 6 geese, 10 chicken and 2 pigeons were living here." #facade #WindowFriday #FensterFreitag
Doors to residential buildings from 1930 in #Zurich. These buildings are part of a large complex, but each entry features a different painting. #doorsday #architecture
Medieval floor tiles, presumably 13th Century, seen at Fountains Abbey, North Yorkshire yesterday. The community had a workshop making the tiles on site. #TilesOnTuesday
