Exhibition of my watercolor paintings and books at Ogaki Bookstore’s Azabudai Hills branch is still on! I will be there this weekend (the 28th and 1st from 1PM) signing books and live-drawing!
A quite sizable exhibition of my watercolors is starting at Azabudai Hills, Tokyo. A large-scale book fair and original art exhibition (with purchase available) commemorating the first anniversary of the publication of the “Imaginary Storefronts” book will be held for a whole month! Another one for the sketchbook. This time, a whole picture done with COPIC markers! I just got a nice set, hand picked by Kana, for Christmas, so I was happy to finally try it out! The small shrine in Inokashira Park, Kichijyoji.

Happy New Year 2026!

I'm so happy to know that all of you are out there, geeking out about and supporting art, and a lot of you making art yourselves, too! I wish you the best for all your efforts!!!!

A dragon sketch from me (even though this is supposed to be a year of the Horse), because our son saw a dream with one for his „new year’s dream” (the first dream of the year is supposed to be prophetic in Japan).

And another painting from my sketchbook - this one a view from the train platform of Kichijoji station (I think). The style is inspired a bit by Nicolas de Crecy's works, I like it a lot - I have been browsing his previous sketchbook-book recently.

0.1mm Rotring Isograph and watercolors - Ink works quite well on this paper, actually. This one was very hard to photograph because of how light the washes are.

Another one for the sketchbook - this one of the shrine in Inokashira Park, Kichijoji - this shrine, and especially the view of it on the pond, always gives me problems. It's so difficult; I've already tried to paint it three times, maybe, and the atmosphere still eludes me.

This time, STEADTLER Mars Black 6B pencil and watercolors (my small set of only granulating paints)

And another thing in my Hahnemuhle sketchbook finished - this time I did just a veeeeery light underdrawing with a hard 2H pencil and painted as much of the piece with simple washes as I could.

I found this strange combination of buildings in Kichijoji, and at once this composition reminded me of Japanese stone gardens - the main tall stone, a supporting stone below it, and an "accent stone" to the side. Perfect.

The paper in this sketchbook is not good for heavy washes.

Trying again to learn a bit of ink-only drawing in a style that's somewhat a mix of manga-like background and what I always do with my lines. I have a lot to learn, hahaha.
This time manga dip-pen (G-pen) and Kuretake ink in my sketchbook - I bought this one because I saw Ian Sidaway use it for ink in the first place.

Another piece in my Hahnemuehle sketchbook - not a "sketch" though as it took me 2.5 work days to finish ;) Some buildings I saw in Tokyo, Mitaka (I think), painted without any lines - just strong granulation watercolor washes.

I'm also trying to up my photographing and editing game - here X-T30 III and Sigma 56mm lens + Darktable

NEW POST ON MY BLOG:

I'm back to a Moleskine

A month or so ago, I went back to using the simple Moleskine notebook and have tons of creative fun on its thin, low-quality, ink-bleeding pages. This sudden reunion after years of scornful antagonism was caused by two impulses.
