the future of browsers is you can use any browser you like, so long as it includes a special quirksmode clientside polyfill plugin addon extension that handily detects whether the current site is chrome-only, and if so, boots a sandboxed chrome running in webassembly into the current tab and reloads the page inside that instead

Sometimes I get stuck and I need a break.

When I make a commitment to myself and I break from it, I try to remind myself to be as kind and understanding with myself as I would be to anyone else.

I'm not very good at forgiving myself, but I'm learning.

I think that my ability to forgive myself is probably also related to my ability to accept the grace of others.

Just another part of #100DaysOfCode 😊

More code inbound.

Day 3 of #100DaysOfCode is in chapter 3, Functions.

Functions are another simple concept. We take some piece of code that performs a task and we encapsulate it so we can reuse it without repeating ourselves.

Functions are one of the simplest forms of encapsulation, which is obviously a very big concept found throughout programming and computer science.

There will be more on functions tomorrow as I continue the chapter.

Day 2 of #100DaysOfCode. Today is flow control in Python.

Thinking about such a basic concept as flow control, especially in such a plain language as python, is a strange contrast to working on problems that are difficult by being complex.

The elements of flow control are interesting: Booleans, conditionals, blocks, and even the very procedural way in which statements (like the ELIF) are written in Python is a tease.

Their very nature says something about the logic of computing.

On two completely separate podcasts I listen to I have heard people lament the current situation of news media behind paywalls, float some sort of "well how about I give you $0.10 to read this article" idea, then get into all the icky things that come about from that.

Guys, and I know I'm a little biased here, but what you need is YouTube Premium but for newspapers. Come together, build that, there you go.

Since we (or at least I) don't want to turn the fediverse into a rage machine, this also needs to be noted.

IBM apologizes for firing transgender pioneer Lynn Conway

Lynn Conway's brilliant contributions to computer science didn't stop IBM from firing her during her gender transition. Now it has apologized.

A quick reminder that law enforcement *responds* to crime, but a living wage, food and water security, accessible healthcare, and public education *prevent* crime.

If you want safer communities, invest in people, not punishments.

So, for day 1, I'm skimming through Automate the Boring Stuff, pecking a few expressions in IDLE, and working my way towards some meat-and-potatoes programming.

I'm starting #100DaysOfCode today! I'm working through a couple books by @AlSweigart.

First up is Automate the Boring Stuff, and after I crush that I'll move on to Beyond the Basic Stuff with Python.

I'm a computer science student and I've programmed in python before, but never studied it directly. My goal is to increase my knowledge of python by writing python code, and to make my day job easier with a little automation.

This is a great story of how Barnes & Noble’s new CEO who was hired in 2019 has turned around the company. Sales are up, it opened 16 stores this year and plans to open more next year.

The secret is the CEO really likes books and readers. So he stopped doing deals with publishers to promote their latest books & NYT best sellers and encouraged individual stores to promote books they found most interesting.

So simple yet…
