Villepin dénonce la "diabolisation" de LFI après la mort de Quentin D. Renvoyer le RN et les Insoumis dos à dos est "une faute politique majeure", selon lui, alors que "les groupuscules violents d’extrême droite sont beaucoup plus nombreux" et que le RN est aux portes du pouvoir. "À force de concentrer les coups sur LFI, par tactique et par calcul, on crée un corridor de respectabilité pour le RN", écrit l'ex-Premier ministre.
