According to https://tboteproject.com/ it's Meta and The Heritage Foundation behind the voter ID laws. Which ok, put surveillance capitalism social network + lead conservative thinktank together, that would make sense. I would love to see a separate org which has reviewed their work and research and can confirm or deny that research though, especially since (even according to the author of the site) a lot of that research was vibecoded.

Age verification is a deliberate attack on system sovereignty, both for individuals and countries. There’s no “age verifcation”, there is only “identity verification that includes age”, and the system doing that verification is not just a privacy-invasive user tracking system but a remotely controlled off switch for anyone of any age.
My severe case of Eastern European Resting Bitch Face means that sometimes people come away with the impression that I don't like them when this is not at all the case. I assure you, if I don't like you, the signs will be clear. You will be able to see it from space.

Spoke to a staffer by the name of O'Keefe at the #Tualatin office of Congresswoman #AndreaSalinas about upcoming #ageVerification bills like #HR8250.

Specifically about the harm such bills would do to my privacy and my business by making Linux and FOSS illegal.

He seemed quite sympathetic and tech-savvy, thank goodness.

Said if I know anybody else near #Portland #Oregon with similar concerns, they should call the Tualatin office at 503-385-0906. Such calls will be logged and counted.

Just to further add some context...

It was bad enough that California enacted its own state law about the mandatory inclusion of #AgeVerification into every 'OS' available within the state.

Follow that up by some quick (and 'silent') PR's being introduced and merged into systemd - with vigorous opposition - to this week's introduction of #HR8250 to mandate the same things into a #Federal #law.

If you have any doubts on how invasive and ineffectual this could be, read:

Well this is truly bad. US national level OS-level age verification bill. https://www.congress.gov/bill/119th-congress/house-bill/8250/all-info

The text of it isn't out yet.

EDIT: Well the text is now out and it's as bad as you could imagine. It's not even just that you need to verify your age to access a website... operating systems must verify your age to let you *use a computer at all*

EDIT EDIT: Thanks to @Andres4NY for pointing out that it also holds responsible anyone who has any software shipped on the operating system of a computer, meaning FOSS developers eveywhere

Prosecuting the fascists and the collaborators is at the top of my list too. It's the absolute minimum it'll take to get my support in all future Democratic primaries.

And I don't want to hear how we can't do it. We've got the ICC, we've got state courts, we can just create a new anti-fascist Nuremberg style tribunal if we have to.

... if you actually think your voice doesn't matter, you truly are a fool.

600 people showed up in #GainesTownship to offer their opinion. The #rezoning vote for a new #DataCenter was tabled for now. #MicroSlop will have to wait.

In a statement... " #Microsoft said they will pay their own way so they don’t increase electricity prices, replenish more water than they use..." Say wut? A supposed 'closed loop' filtering system creates new water?!?!? WTF
