Mastodon.ie is filling up fast with Irish twitter and there's a Black twitter server now! (@blacktwitter.io) 👋

That's great. We'll all be well settled in time for the next funeral. 😉

It looks like there's at least some interest in building a list of Mastodon handles for people from #NewOrleans / #nola / #nolatwitter. I've set up a pretty simple form here so people can add their info: https://forms.gle/HuJbEKa5ce8AEoEi9. The form also includes instructions for downloading the list and importing everyone who has signed up into Mastodon all at once.

NOLATwitter users on Mastodon

Putting together a quick list so people from NOLATwitter can find each other on Mastodon. To add yourself, fill out this form. Only your Mastodon handle is required, but feel free to fill out the other sections if you want to help others find you. The full list is available as a spreadsheet here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1tVXAfMuUTCy5UtKU2Bfh13QfgFQa7WaXr-JF8UF-8jE/edit?usp=sharing Steps for importing into Mastodon: If you want to import everyone on the list into Mastodon, follow these steps. Download the spreadsheet at this link as a Comma-Separated Value file: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/e/2PACX-1vQJ3BThy-zB1z3NYlZaCxSQiV3MuvcyYdrr2QyXRTsjxB1r8_pUqbYHHY161pyE_uwYkqnXzTLnFhjy/pub?gid=688049001&single=true&output=csv. Note that you have to download from this link, since the original sheet will not be properly recognized when it is imported into mastodon. Go to your Mastodon account and click on "Preferences" Click on "Import and Export" in the sidebar and then click "Import" Make sure the "Import type" dropdown is set to "Following list." Then select the file using the button under "Data" and click "Upload." Depending on your server, it may take a while for the accounts to be processed. There may also be accounts listed as waiting on approval before you can follow them. Often, that message just means the servers need to sync up (though people who have their preferences set to require new followers be approved will have to manually approve you). You can repeat this process when new accounts are added to this list. If you select the "Merge" option on the import page, it should automatically add newly added accounts. Feel free to hit me up with any questions. I'm at @[email protected].

@SilentG We're hoping to reconnect folks here: https://forms.gle/HuJbEKa5ce8AEoEi9

Sign up by filling out and submitting the form or use the instructions to import the folks who are already on the list.

There's also @noladon, a group for #nola people. Follow that account and anything that tags it will end up in your feed.

As a Mastodon newbie, I’ve noticed that about half of the introductions have sophisticated and varied interests…something like…I am interested in neural pathways, and transnational information exchange, and cultural hegemony. Meanwhile, the other half of us are more…well, I like TV and games and sitting on the couch. 😊
My pretty basic list of likes are: #Fiction, #80sMusic, #CollegeSports, #DogsofMastodon, #Wine, #CookingShows, #Jazz, and all things #NewOrleans. I also always #VoteBlue

I’d like to ask you mask-up before jumping into my timeline.

OK, kidding but not by much.

If I’m outside my home, I’m masked. Please mask-up, gentlepeople. I don’t want to lose any new friends here.

@WalterShaub Another best practice is to include the hashtag #USPol in any US Politics related post. This enables people interested in the subject to find your post and those who are not interested to filter it out.

Regarding CWs, think of them as titles. If you provide a good good capsulized headline people will be interested and click SHOW MORE.

CWs and topic hashtags are courtesies. They are not requirements, but are appreciated.

You know why Mastodon is the perfect replacement for Twitter: because 95% of the Twitter users - except trolls and influencers - have used Twitter just like Mastodon for the last 15 years.

To all those: don't believe the myth framed by those 5% because they need to keep you in toxic land to maintain their power.

Mastodon is perfect for healthy, calm and interesting conversations.

I've made a deliberate choice against a quoting feature because it inevitably adds toxicity to people's behaviours. You are tempted to quote when you should be replying, and so you speak at your audience instead of with the person you are talking to. It becomes performative. Even when doing it for "good" like ridiculing awful comments, you are giving awful comments more eyeballs that way. No quote toots. Thank's

Little PSA:

A huge chunk of the fediverse came here because they were harassed, literally and aggressively, off birdsite. Understandably, they don't want to be inundated with reminders of the things they went through there.

I know it's big news right now, but please, if you're talking about that place, consider using a content warning <3

Thank you.
