Proton is fine if you are looking for encrypted communications between Proton / PGP users. It's important to remember it is ABSOLUTELY NOT for anonymity. In this case, a user was unmasked because Proton had their payment data. https://www.404media.co/proton-mail-helped-fbi-unmask-anonymous-stop-cop-city-protestor/
Proton Mail Helped FBI Unmask Anonymous ‘Stop Cop City’ Protester

A court record reviewed by 404 Media shows privacy-focused email provider Proton Mail handed over payment data related to a Stop Cop City email account to the Swiss government, which handed it to the FBI.

How do people manage to post across so many platforms on a daily basis?? Is there a tweetdeck for multiple platforms if you want to post differently across them from a more unified interface and look at their distinct feeds? What do people use to make identical posts across the platforms? (Forgive me I am not a regular social media poster, I am but a simple student of the digital public life)

Superheroes @yael.bsky.social and @hypatia.bsky.social put together some great research comparing the efficacy of anti-data broker services. Tl;dr: None are perfect, but optery sounds relatively strong. Here are things we don't know: What Bluesky's trust, safety & abuse policies will look like at scale, compared to fediverse services. Mastodon and other fediverse services have been uneven at times, but have matured over years; Bluesky is still tiny and hasn't been tested at all. We don't know if Bluesky can scale, either technically or socially.
I love that every time I remember to toot I end up having a 5 minute “follow back” sesh. Really glad to see so many friends and v respected colleagues getting to be active and adapted to the practice of using federated social media! I should follow through on this better myself!!
@mshelton wait I DO follow you! We follow each other!!!!
On Mastodon I wonder how important it is that you post during times your intended audience is active. Intuitively at least, I feel like less algorithmic feed curation would lead to a more direct relationship between posting habits and how it surfaces to your network, which might also mean you’d have to plan your posting schedule more for visibility!
I wonder what the spread of financial income streams is across YouTubers these days. For the past couple years I've informally taken note every time I see a merch store, sponsorship, or Patreon being promoted for years (for casual market research) and it's painted an interesting picture of the relationship between demographics, content type, production schedule, and monetization strategies. I want to know if it generalizes! It's especially salient for examining impact of demonetization policies!
