Soon, I embark on a 6-week, 11,000 km, 19 state/province camping and hiking road trip in an electric car with a dog and twin teenagers and I am so excited.

My wish is to foster in my children a deep and lasting love and appreciation for the natural world by repeatedly shocking them out of their teenage resistance with awe-inspiring vistas and experiences.

The new iPhone 14 includes satellite emergency communication! While way more expensive than a GPS satelite device for $200-$400 plus the subscription, an early upgrade felt better than investing in an additional gadget.
@seattlefoodgeek I'm glad there are affordable options once we shift our gaze away from the Garmin suite. “$600?! Nah. I'll just watch where I step. Thanks.”

I'm looking for a satellite messenger and GPS locator to accompany me on solo hikes as a bit of over-cautiousness. Any recommendations for something affordable and reliable?

Interesting video on how #Capitalism has been coopting #mindfulness as a way to create more docile worker bees. Kinda pisses me off because it had the opposite effect on me. There was a time when that marketing would have captured me as an #atheist. Now I cringe when someone directs me to Sam Harris' app. I have watched the #headspace videos and found them helpful. We're all stuck in this system, but it shows why atheists need to bend a little on things like #Buddhism.

@Woodchaz I’ll avoid a hot take, but as a person who studies Buddhism via meditation and mindfulness this scratches an itch. Thanks for sharing.

Uncomfortable truths:

1. There is no “n” in restaurateur, despite the “n” in restaurant.

2. There is no “d” in refrigerator, despite the “d” in fridge.

3. There is no “u” in forty, despite the “u” in four.
