I re-watched this film in the theatre (yes, theatre! can you believe?) and it is even better than I remember. I think it might be one of the most intimate films I've ever watched. In the naturalistic directing style, Yi Yi is tightly knitted together by threads of life, a portrait of the three generations of an ordinary Taiwan family. Everything that was happening in the film was so mundane, yet so strikingly refreshing and exhilarating. The nostalgic yearning when you are stuck in the middle of nowhere in life, the longing for love in your youth, the guilt, regrets
