One of my favorites, a Common #Nighthawk with leucism. Photographed at #Malheur National Wildlife Refuge, #Oregon.

Y’all, temperatures are dropping again in #Louisiana. This means one thing...#gumbo season is back! (For about 4 days before it’s hot again)

It’s been Mothageddon at our house this past week (in a good way!). This mournful sphinx was particularly delightful. #insect #mothstodon

One more update from #BatonRouge while it’s still a little light out - some big gusts but the wind and rain are still not so bad.

While I was typing this I heard something big fall down the street 😬

As #HurricaneFrancine makes landfall it’s starting to get gusty here in #BatonRouge

3:30 pm in #BatonRouge - not as windy or rainy as you’d think looking at the radar.

Light rain in #BatonRouge since about 9:30 am. It’s like gentle Pacific Northwest weather but more ominous.

From the archives: bird surveys can take you to the most beautiful places. This cattle ranch in #Sonoita, #Arizona at dawn was peppered with pronghorn and full of the buzzing of Grasshopper Sparrows.

My mother just found this in an old box. I’m so excited for my daughter to play with it!

A young Painted Bunting was a nice surprise this weekend at Bluebonnet Swamp. Females and young birds aren’t as flashy as adult males, but their brilliant green plumage is beautiful!

All banding is being conducted under a federally authorized Bird Banding Permit issued by the US Geological Survey.
