Screenwriter. Ask me about my scripts!

Fine & Dandy: 60s showbiz comedy series
Nicky & Alexander: contemporary YA gay romcom series
Mature, Responsible Adults: contemporary comedy-mystery series
The Late & the Lamented: 50s-era zombie movie, Douglas Sirk style.

@MattMerk There's a book called "Aristotle’s Poetics for Screenwriters" by Michael Tierno that takes you through it without have to know all that.
You don't have much of a choice:

@aeveltstra @evaknoet

It's been a while since I've seen "Gattaca" so that's why I said "maybe." From what I remember it was a utopia for some, not so much for others. Pandora in "Avatar" is a utopia that is disrupted by outside forces, so perhaps it does count.

@evaknoet

"Things to Come" (1936)
"Tomorrowland" (2015)
"The Jetsons" TV series (1962)
Maybe "Gattaca" (1999)

@davidaugust I consider a screenplay much like an architectural blueprint, in that the blueprint is not a building, but a detailed proposal for one, like a script is not a movie. Guess who retains the copyright for their blueprint?

I have to say that I have no doubt that producers and studios will be intransigent about letting writers retain the copyright for their IP.

@davidaugust Aren't screenwriters selling their copyright to the producers when they make the sale? Isn't that part of the deal? It seems more like a patent in that case.
@cam You never know what inspiration you could find at the archaeological site.
@charles_perkins I would think that tragedy would be the subject of a flashback episode that explains why the character (presumably the main character) behaves the way they do or why they are in the situation they found themself in at the start of the series.
@charles_perkins And because autofill for character names in your screenwriting software.
@Mosquit0Hawk I did read it and thought it did a good job of explaining Aristotle's theories and how to apply them to screenwriting.
