The townscape of warehouses decorated with lanterns

Kawagoe's rows of kura-zukuri (warehouses) are a spot where the atmosphere of Edo (old Tokyo) can be felt.
Preparations for the Kawagoe Hyakumanto Summer Festival are underway.
The 2023 festival will be held on Saturday and Sunday, July 29 and 30.

This summer festival is said to have started as a festival to remember the legacy of Matsudaira Natsunori, the 8th head of the Echizen Matsudaira family and the lord of the Kawagoe domain.

Four deities are enshrined at this shrine, which was recommended from Kumano in Kishu by nenyo Buno, the second generation of Renkeiji Temple, in 1590.

The shrine building was reconstructed in 1713 by Nenyo Ryokan, and the torii gate was made of stone.

The origin of Senba Hie Shrine dates back to 830, when Jikaku Daishi Ennin, the Great Monk of Jikaku, invited Hiyoshi Taisha Shrine to the shrine when he built Kita-in Temple.
The present Hie Shrine in Akasaka, Tokyo, dates back to 1478, when Ota Dokan built Edo Castle and enshrined a branch shrine from Senba Hie Shrine to Momijiyama in Edo Castle.
