I'm laughing at memes about billionaires who can't pull themselves up to the surface by their own bootstraps, but in reality I'm furious.
I'm furious I was accused of human smuggling by FRONTEX (European border agency) for being part of a sea rescue operation that saved 1000+ lives of refugees fleeing war & terrorism.
I'm furious at the money & international effort being spent to rescue these billionaires when operations like ours cost so little and save so many lives, but are punished.

Decent article, but it doesn't mention Black people once. I swear sometimes we're invisible!
Let me spell it out again:
1) 1 in 5 Black people in the US were Twitter daily active users. And at one point, 1 in 5 Twitter daily active users, were Black.
2) Mastodon was hostile to Black people.
3) Black people set a disproportionate amount of the trends on social media.
So Black people came, saw the Fediverse nonsense, and left.
Reminder: The Toronto Star also endorsed Doug Ford days before the provincial election.

Accepting that people's lives do suck. Filters are there for a reason as are mutes if you don't want/can't deal with seeing. That needs to be a choice you, not the person makes.
Showing some empathy, "yeah. That would make me wild with anger." I've probably missed a few!

There is over a decade of precedent that Facebook will not have users' best interests as their guiding principle but rather profit margins, if it joins the Fediverse.
We at tech.lgbt have long held the belief that corporation owned instances are a threat to the core of the Fediverse: freedom for users to be themselves and to be a part of their communities. The 2010s saw the loss of online freedom when the majority of the Web was consolidated into a few destinations, and Facebook entering here could lead us back to centralization. Furthermore, NDAs for server admins will constrain our sovereignty online by binding us legally from disrupting their business.
We are not products. We are people, and we do not welcome Facebook in this space.

Cool moment I came across in Tolstoy's novel, Resurrection (1899), where he basically advocates / explains Land Back. Of course, he is talking about Russian peasants, but the similarity between Land Back for 19th Century peasants and the demand for Land Back on Turtle Island are stunning! It's all about the land!!
