Disasterous week for #FTX and #cryptocurrency. With the news that FTX is filing for bankruptcy, I wanted to talk about #Bitcoin and the recent crash in price.

Although the price has fallen, does this event actually impact the Bitcoin network? Does it change the consensus mechanism? Does it change the total supply? Was a critical bug discovered?

No, so ultimately the bitcoin network is still going strong, adopting more global users daily and continuing to prove itself.

🧵Another thing to keep in mind is that each server has its own set of rules. In fact there is *less* free speech here than on pre-Elon Twitter. Some only allow posts on specific topics. Some don't even allow political contents. Keep this in mind and familiarize yourself with the rules. "Free speech" instances with no or few rules are usually ostracized by most other instances, remember that server admins have powers to block contents from those servers and they usually do.🧵

Dear Elon Musk refugees from #Twitter:

I've been on the #fediverse for over 12 years. First on Diaspora*, then on GNU Social, and then on Mastodon.

I've seen waves of migrations from Facebook and Twitter to the fedi over these years, usually very short-lived.

#Mastodon isn't Twitter. Each Mastodon server is run by independent volunteers with limited resources and money. They cannot handle a massive increase in server and database loads and disk spaces. 🧵
