If you're a furry and have furry art as a profile pic, or have a picture of your RL self, that will make sense to you.

But if you have a flower as your PFP, sorry, you're a talking flower now. Your pfp is your pet? You are a dog/cat/hamster. If your PFP is weird and abstract, you are a weird abstract critter.

If your pfp is the default white elephant for Mastodon, you are grouped in my brain with everyone else that uses it. Also, you are a talking elephant.

There should be international law stating that politicians should be on the front lines of the wars they’re so eager to start wars & if they’re not capable, their kids should go in their place. It would make them more understanding when others lose their children in senseless wars that they advocate.

My experience of the #fediverse :

Year 1 (2023):
It feels a little lonely as 99% of my friends stayed on Big Tech platforms.

Year 2 (2024):
I start a blog - #TheFutureIsFederated - to explain the fediverse to "normies"... and I make a lot of new (techie) friends.

Year 3 (2025):
My techie friends encourage me to start self-hosting with #YunoHost... and I do! (GoToSocial, PeerTube, NextCloud...) I LOVE it.

Year 4 (2026):
I plan to buy a Heltec to try out off-grid mesh radio communication 💁‍♀️
