Ed Zitron:
"LLMs impress the writers who do not want to write, the coders who donât want to code, the researchers who donât want to research, and the lawyers that donât want to actually understand case law. Those that desperately tell you how powerful AI is and that you simply must use it are looking for you to validate their own laziness or distaste for effort, and those who are impressed with LLMsâ outputs tend to be people with low standards."

That is the true definition of malware.

Google Chrome is downloading a 4 GB Gemini Nano model onto users' machines without consent, with no opt-in, no opt-out short of enterprise tooling, and an automatic re-download every time the user deletes it. This article does the legal analysis and, for the first time, the environmental analysis. The numbers are not small.

Bold idea: What if a group of companiesâall using the same type of proprietary softwareâpooled their resources to invest in optimizing existing cross platform open-source software? They could, for example, allocate the same amount they currently spend on licenses over a three-year period. The result? A tailored product that meets their specific needs, with no future licensing costs.
Crazy, I know
