@eleinart Oh my! Yes, I lived in the Canadian Rockies for a time and man, the snow there was insane!

We are finally getting the snowstorm they've been warning about over the past few days. Other areas (i.e. Buffalo, right across the river) have been buried but so far we haven't gotten it as badly. It's still coming down and more still to come, apparently. I am not a fan and would much prefer being somewhere warm and sunny. What's the weather like where you are, friends?

Sending our very best wishes to all of the editors writing the Editors Canada Professional Certification exams in Copy Editing and Stylistic Editing tomorrow. You've got this!
@JAJablonski I do! I've built up a wonderful community there, it's where many of my clients find me, and the big pitch event that I co-found/host is dependent on the bird app so I will be devastated if T dies! I plan on staying as long as it's alive and hoping things get sorted out... in the meantime, I'm trying out Mastodon and building up a presence here just in case!
@sdramsey Yes, Sherry! No info dump and if it can be skipped without impacting understanding of the story then no need--absolutely agree. 😊
@Michaelvaliant Excellent question! So much of this industry is subjective. Foreshadowing, hinting at the conflict to come, setting the mood/tone, providing a key piece of information (perhaps that can't be known by the narrator) that will make sense later on as things start to come together--these are good reasons to include a prologue, but if there's a way to weave it into the story at another point, then it means the prologue isn't really necessary. If it's to introduce action and pull...
@Michaelvaliant I voted "I love a good prologue" with the emphasis on "good." Many prologues are not necessary. Labelling a prologue as Chapter 1 is obvious and not a good idea. However, there must be no other way to tell the story as effectively (the story won't make sense without it). But they must be written very well. Writers should ask themselves if they're starting the story in the right place and, if they decide to include a prologue, be confident that it's necessary and well-written. 😊
@Mathildazeller Yes! Just figuring things out here and looking to connect with those in the #writingcommunity! :)
@raimalarter thanks! I figured I better get that part figured out pretty quickly. 😊

I'm also a co-founder/host of #MoodPitch (www.moodpitch.org).

Currently, I'm participating in #nanowrimo to finally finish drafting and revising my ghosty thriller, The Inheritance.

Hoping to connect with #writers here that are migrating from the bird app! Still learning how to navigate this platform.
