@gruber @jenskutilek Thank you for this! As a dyslexic, I’ve often wondered why when using these fonts, my comprehension dropped even more. Honestly, the best advice I ever got was to use sans serifs when reading, and the sans that comes with Kobo is VERY good for this.
Canva making Affinity free makes a ton of sense if you look at it as a way to acquire young artists before they use Adobe. The way it used to work is that young people and students would pirate CS or get a student discount, making them lifers on the platform. Getting young people on Affinity without any friction is going to change the design software landscape in 5-10 years time. Adobe will still be a player at the higher tier, but Canva will be more synonymous with art software down the road.
I don’t know who needs to hear this, but I just watched the entirely of Halt and Catch Fire and it was the most criminally underrated shows I’ve ever seen. If you missed it—and be honest, you probably did—you won’t be sorry if you decide to binge it. I loved every second of its 40 episodes.
#haltandcatchfireYou know who cares about the Hunter Biden pardon? It sure isn't voters. The only people wasting time and energy on this issue are the pundit class. Spend your time and ink criticizing the incompetents Trump is putting into his cabinet, and any other host of things that ACTUALLY MATTER. Holy jeez, people.
Let’s shatter something right now: America isn’t overwhelmingly somehow Trump country. He got 75 million votes, which is…just 30% of the voting-eligible population. 70% of Americans did NOT cast a ballot for the guy. If the left truly gives a shit about regaining power, figure out how to engage the nearly 97 million people who didn’t show up. America doesn’t have a Trump problem, it has an apathy problem, leaving us wide open to extremism.
The scariest takeaway from the election is this:
Americans are growing more and more accepting of antidemocratic sentiment in their politics.
To me, that's the canary in the coal mine for the U.S. right now. We should be MUCH more worried about this.
One thing only today:
AOC, run in ‘28.
You’re the generational talent we need. Someone who communicates extraordinarily well, is willing to mix it up, and actually understands how to reach people where they are. You can, and should, do it.
I’m plucking Wednesday’s headline and giving it to you all now: “Women bail America out yet again: Kamala Harris elected as 47th President of the United States”
Political analysts: The polls are flooded with bad and poorly (perhaps intentionally) weighted data. It’s impossible to say where the race really is.
Also political analysts: These polls are proof that one candidate or the other has momentum and is going to win.
319 to 219, Harris. Two dark months of fuckery and coup attempts from the right. Polling is underrepresenting youth turnout, POC turnout, and turnout for people who actually just really like Harris (her good favorability rating is rarely talked about). Trump's ceiling of 47% plus dependence on low propensity voters will doom him. Just putting this out there, and will let it age as well or as poorly as it needs to, but this is my gut.
