Sasha has really bad nasal allergies, a new thing this year
We had eggs for dinner in the 4x seasoned #castiron. Only the pan in the back right gave me problems but continuing to cook with it should get it sorted.
Seasoning layer 4 for my #castiron pans is complete. Stopping for today because it’s getting very warm out and we need to have the doors and windows shut and the a/c on.
Completed the third layer of seasoning. Once the #castiron cools enough I’ll start again.
I’m back at it today with seasoning the #castiron pans. I saw that someone on r/castiron did 80 layers on their pans! I don’t think I’ll go that far but then again maybe I will for shits and giggles and eggs that glide like skaters on ice.
And that was the first layer of seasoning a #castiron pan! I let the pans cool until they were just warm enough to have Crisco melted on them and started the process over again, starting with putting them in the 200F oven for 20 minutes. I was able to complete 2 layers total yesterday.
Next up was warming my #castiron pans in my oven at 200F for 20 minutes, and then applying a good layer of Crisco all over the pans. Then they went back in the oven until the temperature reached 300F. Next, I removed them from the oven and used a tea towel to wipe out all of the grease. After using the tea towel I used paper towels to absorb more of the grease. Then the pans went back in the oven for an hour at 450F.
There was some flash rust after all of the scrubbing of the #castiron but it came off easily with a rub down of Crisco.
Yesterday I got down to scrubbing the #castiron with steel wool, then Bar Keeper’s Friend, and then Dawn dish detergent.
Last week I started the process of stripping some #castiron that had been abused 5 years ago and then left to sit. Started with soaking in 50/50 vinegar and water, then scrubbing out with kosher salt and oil, and then spraying with yellow cap Easy-Off and placing them in a garbage bag for a week to let the lye do its work.
