OTD 1936: Turing submits his paper “On Computable Numbers, with an Application to the Entscheidungsproblem.”
90 years of Turing machines!
A grownup boy's dream as seen on Edsviken, Stockholm: To hang out with the guys on a sauna boat on the weekend. No women. Just beer and bellies. Probably dirty jokes too. Luckily, they did not ask me to join. They probably could sense that I find my kind of freedom on my bicycle.
My head was humming Friday On My Mind by the Easybeats. Gonna have fun in the city, be with my girl, she's so pretty! Suddenly, it struck me! When I bicycled around the corner on the path next to Edsviken, Stockholm, all I could think of was If Paradise Is Half As Nice by Amen Corner. I smiled for another kilometer or two and felt like back then in the late 1960s when everything was so easy, in our private Itchykoo Park in Fürstenfeld, Austria.
A perfect day for bicycling north of Stockholm on the coast of the Baltic Sea. 50 km bicycling packed with fresh air, scent of lilacs, all kinds of birds, large and small, plenty of sailing boats ready for summer, people sunbathing, wind surfers, school kids having gymnastic class on the beach, and old ladies with fancy sun hats. I had a peaceful snack next to the water while watching majestic swans checking out whether I had food for them, too.
Yesterday, I went into a shop in order to buy two bottles of wine for dinner. In Sweden, one can buy alcoholic beverages only in shops which are controlled by the state. They also have very polite personell for helping out to find the right stuff. I had my Brompton with me and, in addition, I had my helmet on. The girl asked me what I wanted and I told her that I want a red wine which fits with salmon. She looked at me and then proposed the one shown in the photo.
Should I also buy me a Brompton? But then I would finally need to move and stop sitting here lazily with all my thoughts, he most likely thought; the Thinker. Meanwhile, I was thinking which luck I have to live here in Stockholm, Sweden. We're having the second half of May and I have started thinking of getting my tent ready. I think that these coming weeks will be a whole lot of fun. Actually, it already is.
The Old Town of Stockholm, Sweden. I took my Brompton out to town today. First, the Brompton got some fresh oil on its chain, then I got a coffee and a cinnamon bun while sitting on the south side of Slussen looking over Old Town, or Gamla Stan, as we say here. I like the individuality of the buildings. Look at the second from the right; it seems to be a bit squeezed between its neighbours. Or the tall ones in the middle; aren't they rather snobby?
2/2 ... Today's joyful ride around Lake Brunnsviken on this single trail just before meeting the parrot.
Today, I was bicycling on a single-trail with my Brompton around Lake Brunnsviken, Stockholm. Suddenly I could hear him approaching from behind and a moment later the huge bird sat on my shoulder and slightly pinched my ear. I have met the 4-year old parrot a bit earlier and we had a short chat. I asked "how's it going", and he clearly answered with a friendly "hello". By the way, here is a photo of the perfect single-trail next to the lake ... 1/2
