People always be like "Oh Mr Billionaire tell us how you made your billions of dollars! What's your secret ingredient to success??" as if the truthful answer isn't "I convinced the government to pay me money to make a thing that was already free before, and then sold it back to the government (or to myself!) for a huge markup at taxpayer expense. This artificially inflated the value of my stock which I then used as collateral to secure enormous personal loans that I have no intention of ever paying back. Also I refuse to pay my workers and I don't pay a single cent in taxes."

It's crime. The secret ingredient is crime.

@bagder with today's keynote on FOSS-North 2026:

Open Source AI Reality

> This talk is a reality check and status update on AI tooling for security and Open Source maintenance. Ban all AI for incompetence, adopt it whole-heartedly because it does better code than humans or maybe find a middle-ground?

On my way to #Foss-North in Gothenburg, Sweden. I'll be giving a talk about being old and nostalgic and protecting a BBS running on a 386 from the Wild West that is the Internet.

The talk will be given using the 486 PC in the pictures.

TIL that the operator of archive.today and its mirrors archive.ph/archive.is was caught harassing victims with targeted DDoS attacks and deployed malicious code on the web site.

We should probably stop using this service, which is most popular for archiving and looking up paywalled articles. But what alternatives are there, besides archive.org (which is an important service for the Internet but lacks a good UX for quickly archiving things)?
