Neil CraigAs part of a time-limited trial, yesterday we removed the www.bbc.co.uk & www.bbc.com robots.txt "block" on *one* GenAI crawler.
Here's a graph of total daily requests from that 1 GenAI crawler by content-type. You'll note, they've retrieved ~460k web pages in ~16 hours, so a mean of ~28,750 web pages per hour. They'll likely pull ~690k pages today, ~32GB egress.
Whilst this is a drop in the ocean versus our other traffic, I can easily see how this could sink a smaller website.
Is it weird that I miss the desktop #software? As a #linux user, the prevalence of web applications makes them more accessible to me (since I need only a web browser), but at the same time... well, I can't put my finger on it, but for some reason, I'm feeling dissatisfaction with the current web-first model.
What I know is that lately I'm feeling almost a nostalgia for desktop apps and I'm choosing using them over the web apps whenever possible.
I'm in the process of building an #european based #techstack for my #contentmarketing microagency.
It's... suprisingly easy. I didn't figured out only a few optional pieces, but in general, I have everything I need in terms of #software.
I guees people are mostly just accustomed to the most common, US-based solutions. Or are afraid that if something is less popular or known, it won't be good?
I think they could quickly change their minds after trying the alternatives.
When I take even a two-day break from my RSS feed with industry news and finally decide to check it again.

You know that feeling after buying new, better headphones? When the previous ones suddenly sound much worse than you remembered?
This is exactly the same feeling that learning VIM developed in me toward editors like Google Docs. All of them now seem incredibly inefficient, clumsy, slow. However, they are industry standards, so I necessarily have to work with them. Well, and now I'm suffering. ;)
