My article, 'An AI-Driven Optimism for Transforming Higher Education (It's Not What You Think)' was just published today in Educause Review! #Ungrading #OpenPedagogy

Could artificial intelligence drive higher education institutions to dispense with grading and refocus attention on empathy and learning, thereby reshaping colleges and universities into dynamic hubs for global change?

Honestly, #BlueSky is ok. Here is ok. Both have risks. Neither is perfect.

Could we all (in both) just stop smugly predicting each other’s downfall for five minutes and celebrate that big numbers of people are really trying to find new places to feel at home and get heard and figure stuff out and keep each other safe from mischief. That’s the story here.

Hi America

Please end Trumpism, tomorrow

Thank you

So, been watching these #HarrisVideo rallies all day. Women are really pissed off.

Trump kicked the hornets nest with his "whether they like it or not" comment. Women are energized and they are coming for him. Women are not going back.

Finally sat down and watched @actualham 's talk from #opened24 . It was an in-person only part of the program but thankfully she recorded it ahead of time too and posted it for everyone. I had been told it was a must-hear and everyone was right. Most of it wasn't new to me, as deeply interested in social justice as I am, but it did explicitly name neoliberalism and capitalist imperialist systems and tie them in to our education issues in new ways for me. https://robinderosa.net/higher-ed/against-hope-opened24/

On the afternoon of Wednesday, October 9th, I presented a f2f session at the 2024 Open Education conference in Providence, Rhode Island. I understand that for various reasons, many folks couldn&#82…

THIS IS A HUGE ACHIEVEMENT:

The EU now generates more electricity from wind and solar than from fossil fuels.

Graph from Nat Bullard and data from Ember.

Let’s be explicitly clear.

The Electoral College exists because enslavers wanted to count their enslaved in their vote total without freeing them, much less giving them voting rights. That is the one purpose the Electoral College ever served.

Pro Electoral College is pro white supremacy. Abolish it.

Getting back to Dan’s original question: AI appears in a shiny suit to solve the problems of education because they are problems. We are surrounded with boilerplate text and templated outputs and formulaic work and valuing published words like we’re weighing fish catch because we made those rules, and because so much depends on preserving them. AI says “here let me help you with that,” and it’s seductive because it saves us from looking at our actual problems, which are deeply problems of manufactured competitiveness, vanity reward schemes and actual de-resourcing.

Enjoying Fukuoka, Japan where this magical rainbow appeared and I was so lucky to have captured it's reflection. #rainbowcircle
